Have you heard the expression “Overwhelm” on your internet marketing journey? The definition of overwhelm is bury or drown beneath a huge mass of something, especially water. “floodwaters overwhelmed hundreds of houses “synonyms: swamp, submerge, engulf, bury, deluge, flood, inundate;
Over the years I have found myself in this position on several occasions. In fairness it is probably due to the exceptionally good sales pitches out there. When something lands in my inbox, I like to have a browse through the email to see what’s on offer. Sometimes when I am not so disciplined, I will go through several emails like this and get distracted from whatever I was supposed to be doing.
Sometimes at first glance I can I will discard it as it has not caught my interest in the first paragraph or two. Sometimes I will discard it because immediately I see Crypto Bitcoin in the title. It’s not so much that I don’t like anything to do with Bitcoin, more the fact that there are so many scams out there and that it will take even more time to find one program to trust. So, having discarded the ones that are of no interest I have a shortlist of emails I like and it’s at this point that I start looking a little closer.
I think if we are honest, we have all looked for that magic bullet. We look at something to do with internet marketing and starting our online business and hope that we are staring our future rapid prosperity in the face. There have been times over the years that I have bought something and thought to myself ‘here we go, this is the one!’ only to be disappointed when the manual or course or whatever arrived. Our expectations are usually so high because we are so desperate to make some additional income online.
The reality is that life is just not like that. Building an online business takes time. You need to set yourself up properly, take the time to launch your blog and link to the social media platforms. You need to put in the effort. If you have a full-time job you have to find that extra time to do all of the things that need to be done for setting up and driving your new business. You need to acquire the new skills if you don’t already have them through study. In other words, you may need to do a course over a long period of time to beef up your skills. You need to be consistent in your endeavours. Five minutes here and there every other day will not help you achieve your internet marketing goals. You need to set aside a good 30 to 60 minutes every day, concentrate on a certain task and add another tool or strategy to your new business, or article to your blog or posts on your social media.
Above all else you have to eliminate overwhelm. These days I simply go to my emails each day and delete anything that is a sales pitch straight away. Often, I take the time to unsubscribe from that particular mailing list. I put a time limit on this of 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes later in the day. I then focus on my day and my business, following the instructions of my business coach. It’s surprising just how quickly you get into the right habit. It’s a bit like taking a decongestant when you have a heavy cold and your sinuses start to clear. It feels almost as good as well!!!!
